About Me
This will be my fourth Habitat for Humanity build. The work we do each year is rewarding, heartwarming and heartbreaking. In Romania, 5.5 million Romanians live in extremely poor conditions, including more than 2 million children, and over 42% of the population have no bathroom facilities with access to running water. Over 58% are struggling with overcrowded living conditions, and many houses are made of improper materials or are in advanced stages of degradation and not equipped with basic utilities. Two-thirds of Romania’s people in rural areas live in the poorest conditions and, in cities, many live in cramped apartments. Much of Romania’s housing stock is low quality and deteriorating because of a lack of maintenance. Habitat for Humanity Cumpana Romania is building four new quadruplexes between 2015-2019 which will each house four families. Two are complete, and two just started this past summer. We anticipate being involved in various aspects of new construction with opportunities to interact with Habitat families, construction staff, and learn about Romania’s culture.It is an honor to help work towards the vision of safe, affordable decent housing for all. Fundraising gives the opportunity for others - those who may be unable to take the time off work, to travel or to physically perform the labor - to be part of the build in spirit. According to the official statistics, 35 percent of housing in Romania is in a state of complete neglect and in need of urgent repairs.
Habitat for Humanity Romania has taken up the challenge of ending poverty housing in the country. Since it’s founding in 1996, HFH Romania has partnered with more than 1,000 families.
