Hello, I am Juju, a Brazilian volunteer living in Myanmar. I lived here 2 years as a volunteer before, and in March this year I returned to be a volunteer teacher at the Bamboo Delight Summer School and Library in Nyaung Shwe, Inle Lake region. But unfortunately after one week of teaching the government decided to close down all the schools and commerce, to avoid the transmission of the Covid-19. I am here for almost 3 months now, and this week the government announced that the government schools in Myanmar are scheduled to start in July 2020 and we hope everything goes well, the government is preparing and organising everything to reduce the risk for the children. Fortunately in the state where I am, we have no confirmed cases and in the whole country there are less than 200 cases. Over the past 2 months a large majority of people have stayed home. There are very few tourists in the country, as airports and bus companies are inoperative, but tourists can only leave where they are staying for a maximum of one hour during the day to walk and exercise themselves.Because of this, the vast majority of working families are unemployed as they depend mainly on tourism and the export of their crop products. And at the moment there is nothing. So the daily income to feed the family is either very low or nonexistent. In the past two months, myself and Sue (the founder of the Summer School project), have taken several actions to distribute food and we have happily helped over 200 families. However, with the beginning of the school term and without work, parents cannot afford to buy material and uniforms for their children. So as we do every year, we will distribute material and school uniform. We want to help 300 children this year, but practically all the money we use for this comes from the small profit that Sue has in her cooking class, which has not been in operation for two months and we don't even know when she will be able to return to work again. So we are asking for support from friends. If you are able to contribute and to help us to buy the school supplies and uniform for 1 child, this will be an immense help. Or if you can share this fundraising with your friends we would be very grateful.Below is the breakdown of the funds required for the 300 children:- 50 sets for high school x 20usd = 1000usd- 150 sets for middle school x 15usd = 2250usd- 100 sets for primary school x 10usd = 1000usdWe have got 1000 usd (raised offline) and need another 3250 usd (about 4600 sgd). Funds raised will be managed by GIVE.asia and sent directly to the school at the end of the campaign. We are considering around 500SGD expenses on finance costs, currency conversion lost, withdraw charges.I am very thankful to all the friends who always support me here and who are always willing to help, I have no words to express all my affection and love for you. I hope that when travelling is possible again, you have the chance to come to visit this amazing country, you will be enchanted by the country and the people of Myanmar. You can visit the school's Facebook page to find out more about them. facebook.com/libraryandsummerschool/
