I want to stress that I am putting my trust in the volunteers that have assisted with this effort, including the veterinary professionals, to provide a realistic solution to long term welfare.
While some people won't donate unless all dogs are rehomed, the local community have a plan in place to support some dogs remaining with their owner. There is a place for human compassion in animal welfare.
At the end of the day, I choose to be compassionate. And I choose to trust those close to the situation that can reasonably appraise all needs far better than I can from behind my computer.
Thank you again to everyone that has been supportive of this cause.
Fundraising to assist with compensating individuals and professionals that have helped out with Silken Windhound health, rescue, and welfare efforts. This is not affiliated with ISWS and is not intended as a replacement or alternative to what they offer to our breed community. This is supplemental and intended for compensation for activities that may be outside of the scope of ISWS.
Moving forward, we will be forming a 501c3 to address future needs.

We have distributed another $600 from the fund to help the welfare of the Texas Silkens. Two more dogs will be starting heartworm treatment thanks to these efforts!

Great news - $480 cleared the bank today from the donations and I have contributed a donation of my own to round to up an initial disbursement of $500 to donate to the welfare of the silkens in Texas. The group that have been responsible for overseeing this effort asked that one person receive the funds directly.
Three Silkens have already begun Heartworm treatment, with 5 more expected to be treated soon. The volunteers have asked for assistance with 3 out of 8 of these dogs, the rest they expect to have covered based on arrangements they are making locally.
There may still be 1 dog looking for a permanent new home, pending bloodwork (suspected thyroid issue).
Beyond that, the vet that provided most of the initial care has asked that the priority for funding should go to the foster homes for food and flea/tick medicine reimbursement. I don't think it'll take much to really square away the support we can give these wonderful people.
Thank you to everyone that has chipped in so far, it means so much to me on a personal level and I know the support we give to our community is seen, felt, and appreciated.

Thank you to everyone that has donated to get this fundraiser started, it is so very appreciated!
I've been asked about where and how this money is going to be utilized, so I want to provide a little more clarity of my intentions:
This year there were 40+ Silken Windhounds that received veterinary care including dental care, professional grooming, and much more from individuals who put the care of these animals ahead of anything else.
My primary focus is on compensating the professional services these dogs received. These volunteers did a wonderful thing, but they shouldn't be expected to shoulder the burden of these expenses alone.
Additionally, there may still be dogs that will be looking for new homes, some of which are Heartworm Positive. To facilitate placing dogs with treatment plans firmly in place, this fund will also assist as needed.
All payouts from the fund will be disclosed when they occur. Given that this welfare effort was largely coordinated with a core group of people I expect to fully collaborate with that group to determine how to maximize the benefit of this fundraiser.
Once this particular situation is more comfortably addressed, my intention is to form a 501c3 with clearly outlined policy and purpose. But right now, I hesitate to delay any further.
