Skye's Education Expenses 2023-2024

Skye's Education Expenses 2023-2024

From Seby Sūjū Bell

A private Catholic school might seem an odd choice for my feral, homeschooled son, but he has big dreams and needs the most supportive, yet challenging environment he can get. Sadly, the financial commitment is huge.

Update #3

We only have about a month left on our campaign. As a "thank you" to our donors, I'm giving you all access to a juicy 25% discount on my popular "Annual Inspection and Tune-Up" service (normally $100). This can be scheduled as a drop-off service or by Remote Support. We recommend drop-off when possible because it can take a few hours! If you're a member of my "Complete Care" plan (so you get this service for free every year), I'll give you a 1-month credit on your service plan!! Just let me know you want to claim it before the campaign is over.

You can see our "Annual Inspection and Tune-Up" under the "budget options" section on this page: https://computerchickmsp.com/service-and-support/refresh/

More Info

Skye is 16 and has been homeschooled / unschooled all his life. This past year he made the decision to attend school to pursue his dreams of becoming a commercial pilot. Due to unique personal challenges, and being rejected by some of the public schools that seemed more appropriate to his situation, we felt that general public school would be a recipe for disaster.

I (Skye's mother) met with various schools in the area and Saint John's Jesuit was the one who really stepped up to show their belief and commitment in helping boys succeed, even ones who need extra patience and support. Additionally, they have a very strong ethical foundation and pride themselves on passing these virtues along to their graduates.

They tested him, interviewed him and were impressed by Skye's passion and insight while understanding that this would be a huge adjustment for him.

Skye is on the Autism spectrum, he's smart and funny but also fights crushing anxiety and depression. He really deserves this chance to prove to himself that he has the power to succeed in life.

Based on my (Skye's mom) income, we were able to shave the financial commitment down from nearly $20,000 to around $5k including tuition and a lunch bill of around $10/day (they don't offer reduced cost meal plans). Even so, I'm working full time and already struggling to keep all of my expenses paid so even this amount is overwhelming. I've already had to pay out around $2k for clothes, supplies and various other school related expenses and I'm barely able to keep my head above water as it is. We're so grateful for all of the help we've received so far. Can you please help secure Skye's chance to succeed?

Update #2

Just a quick update! I had the chance to meet with Skye's teachers yesterday evening (very briefly). It was an opportunity to introduce myself and just check-in. They all said they are very impressed with how well he is doing and how hard he is working. He's been moved to a pre-algebra class temporarily, to help him get caught up on the skills (that's a huge relief) and one of his periods is in "The learning center" where they have tutors available all the time to offer support. I'm so proud of Skye! Unfortunately, he did have to take the last 2 days off from school due to catching a cold. He's been running a bit of a fever so he missed his Freshman Induction ceremony last night. :( With any luck, he should be better to jump back into it on Monday. Thanks, everyone!! <3

Update #1

Skye is so excited to see folks supporting him!! Unfortunately, it seems like he's caught a cold - no big surprise there since he's not used to being around all of the germs. Hopefully he will rebound quickly! They're doing a "Freshman Induction" ceremony this evening and he doesn't want to miss it! He may have to go wearing a mask if he hasn't recovered. In the meantime, I'm letting him sleep in this morning. <3
