A college student from Philadelphia, John Daniel Pierret, was awarded a Jeff Arch Fellowship for his original screenplay, The Art of Moving on. Jeff is the Academy nominated writer of the romantic comedy classic, Sleepless in Seattle, and made  the final selections.

“Anyone who went to film school would recognize John as ‘the guy you were jealous of,’ and you couldn’t even hate him because he was too damn good,” says Jeff. “John’s submission was about new beginnings and breaking through limits. We hope we can help him do all of that and more.”

“I believe I have strong stories to tell for the Latinx community,” says John Daniel Pierret. “The Summit will allow me to be around established writers who will help me master my writing so I will be able to tell the most authentic stories.”

Each season, the Story Summit gathers award-winning professionals to provide intimate, meaningful and productive relationships with screenwriters and authors in an inspiring, immersive and naturally beautiful environment.

“I have received a terrific fellowship from Mr. Arch, but I am still short of my tuition  goal to be able to attend the Story Summit this October,” says John.  "I am hoping that the Story Summit will aid in jumpstarting my writing career so I might have a sustainable future.  Anything that you could do would be appreciated. Also the donation is made to the Storyteller Foundation which is a non-profit so donors will be able to take their contribution as a tax deduction.”

“Stories change the world. It’s been that way since the beginning of language. John's screenplay, The Art of Moving On is written with a unique voice. It is a voice that should be encouraged. I first learned of John's talents  through his university professor and she ws so right about his gifted vision," says David Kirkpatrick, the former President of Paramount Pictures and one of the founders of Story Summit.

Please help John reach his goal to attend the 2020 Story Summit this October!

WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF STORY

We believe in imagination.

From the beginning, it was always the word. Through the unique ability to imagine and connect to one another through words, humankind stepped into greatness.

We know story changes lives.

Had it not been for Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, our hearts may never have known compassion for the poor.

We know story activates positive social change.

Had it not been for  Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, there may have never have been a civil rights movement.

We have watched story transform community.

Had it not been for Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, A Ghost Story, there may never have been the charitable component associated with the holiday.

We believe in encouraging the storyteller.

We need one another. Had Ernest Hemingway not encouraged J.D. Salinger, there may never have been The Catcher in the Rye

We are committed to helping storytellers find their audience.

The writer’s life can be lonely, so it is important to connect them with professionals who can support them in their storytelling and a lifetime of stories.
