Study Abroad in Ethiopia

My love toward the Deaf Culture began when I was in elementary school and took my first American Sign Language (ASL) course. It really flourished when I got back into the language in college. I have been learning the language for about 3 years and hope to become an Interpreter some day.  "Visions Global Empowerment (“Visions”) is a registered nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, CA that aims to change patterns of inequality by supporting educational initiatives for youth affected by conflict, poverty, and disability." I will be working with the visions program and the Program for the Deaf at the Bahir Dar School throughout my time in Ethiopia. This trip is an amazing opportunity for me to connect with the Deaf community in a different culture and further my knowledge of sign language. During this trip I will be working along side many deaf professionals and inside some deaf schools and programs in Ethiopia. I am over the moon about this opportunity and can not wait till I am finally there. With this opportunity comes great financial responsibility toward the program, the flights, and everything in-between.
