Dear friends and family,

We, Masuma's friends, are writing this with a heart that is deeply sad and worried about the safety of her parents and siblings. We are fundraising to support Masuma’s family in their need to leave Afghanistan through humanitarian parole. It is critical that her family leave Kabul now. All funds will assist them in their efforts to leave the country and come to the U.S. There are expenses along this immigration such as application processing fee, medical exam, and visa fee.

Masuma has had the good fortune to be a Fulbright doctoral candidate in the U.S. She left Afghanistan primarily in pursuit of a better education. Her desire was always to return to Afghanistan to assist in the education of girls and those who sought a higher education. Those dreams died when the Taliban seized power and the previous president fled the country on August 16, 2021.

Masuma’s father was a university professor before the Russian invasion. Many of her family members speak English at a university level and have held professional jobs. They are of the Hazara Sect that is traditionally persecuted by the Taliban; therefore, their lives are in an immediate risk.

For the safety and security of the family, we cannot disclose too many details about them and their situations at this moment. If it is in your heart to have some tangible way to help those fleeing Afghanistan, perhaps this is the way to do that. I have known Masuma for many years and can vouch for her. Please contact me if you wish to discuss any of this as you make your decision. Your contribution is urgent.

Your assistance through a contribution is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Masuma’s friends
