Update #2

What a great first day! We almost have a month of rent covered already. That's amazing!

I have made a couple quick updates to better reflect the needs and goals of this fundraiser! Mainly, the goal has been raised to $21,000 rather than just the $1700 needed for the first month. That is what I estimate would be needed to safely get my mom through December and 2021.

Each month, her basic needs would be covered by $1700.00, so the current goal is to reach that level in recurring contributions. If you already gave, thank you so much. If you think you could comfortably give a small amount each month, that would be incredibly helpful in getting us to the finish line faster!

If you'd like to help us get there, I've copied a short message below that you can tweet or post to facebook along with the link to this Fundly. Thank you all so much!

More Info

The primary goal is to get rent paid for my mom each month and cover as much of her additional expenses as possible, so she can have a safe, warm, dry place to live in the cold and wet Northeast! I know we can do this for her each month.

The number you see to the right is what I estimate these costs would be for the whole year. Each month it would be about $1700, so that's our goal for recurring contributions.

Some more about my mom: Her name is Denise and she's an energetic and enthusiastic person who has been stuck in hard times. She is currently houseless and unemployed, living in unsafe shelter without heat or running water. I love my mom very much and hope we can get her on solid footing to take positive steps forward.

She also faces challenges as an older woman approaching 60. She grew up at a time when women were still often discouraged from going to school, so she also does not have a college degree. She has disabilities as well, dealing with chronic pain and lingering work-related injuries, among other issues. Of course, COVID-19 has only made all of her problems and challenges that much more difficult, but we can be her lifeline.

I am going to cover as much for her as I can out of my own pocket, but I need some help getting across the goal line each month. This will help her start rebuilding her life after years of bad luck and hardship.

I currently live in Los Angeles, but my mother is in Fall River, MA, which adds to the challenge of helping her out. I am hoping the need for this will be relatively short term and we can end it before the end of 2021 with her completely self-sufficient or only needing minimal help that I can reasonably provide myself.

Whatever level you contribute to, all funds will be used to pay her living expenses, including rent, utilities, cell phone, car expenses, health insurance, and any other necessary items.

When funds exceed the needed amount for 1 month, the additional money will be put aside for the following month / saved in case of future emergencies. At the end of the year, we will look at her needs and decide if we need to continue or not, but I really believe that in a few months, she will be in a much better place with our help!

So, if my mother's living and financial situation improves over the course of the next year to the point that this fund-raiser can be safely shut down (for example, if she gets a job that allows her to become self-sufficient), we will immediately stop accepting contributions and I will post an update informing everyone of the good news!

Thank you so much for helping my mom!

Update #1

Welcome to the start of what I hope will be a very short campaign! I appreciate the help so much. I myself have lost thousands of dollars of income due to COVID-19, but I am thankful I have been able to make much of that up, running my small business as an independent contractor from home. However, it has really limited my ability to help my mom and she has bills coming due very soon and the temperature is only dropping in New England. Thank you for your contribution!
