Educational program uses sports to inspire and connect youth

Dear Friends

When I was 12 years old, my friend and I dragged a full size basketball hoop over two miles to my house.  My coach was so tired of hearing the ball bounce outside his house and shovels scraping ice off the pavement.  He finally came storming out and told us to "just take the hoop for crying out loud!"  Without a second thought, we were pushing the hoop up an ice street.  Twenty years later, I travel the globe to play the game I love, a game I am fortunate enough to call my job.  Five years ago,  another player and I founded TRU with the goal of using sports as a classroom to foster lifelong relationships and teach valuable lessons to kids.  We believe that the basketball court provides the perfect classroom for teaching the values of tolerance, respect and teamwork.  At SUMMERSLAM, a one-of-a-kind basketball camp, we bring together knowledge from experienced coaches and community to create an environment of fitness, fun and learning.  Best of all, SUMMERSLAM is free to all school-aged youth.  Our organization is of the firm belief that you shouldn't have to pay to play.  

TRU is actively seeking sponsors for our 5th annual SUMMERSLAM event.  Donations help pay for court rentals, liability insurance, snacks, lunch and t-shirts for all 90-100 participants, advertising and media coverage, and prizes such as:  Driver's Education, overnight camp experience, basketballs and basketball shoes.  Without the generous support of people and businesses, programs like this could not be possible.
