Hello there, I'm Sonya McGee, soon to be 53 in just a matter of days. As I stand at this juncture of life, allow me to share my journey with you. I wear many hats - a single mother to five remarkable adults and a proud grandmother to six beautiful souls. My story embodies the spirit of the 70s, an era where life's luxuries were scarce, and my father, despite his disabilities, gave us his all. Cooking, oh, how it ignited my heart's fire at the tender age of six or seven. With every year that passed, my love for this craft grew deeper, more profound. However, my path was not without its struggles. My mother's unwavering religiosity and stringent upbringing often clashed with my own spirit. Rebellion became my voice as I felt unseen and unheard in the shadow of her devotion to the church. Before I even turned ten, my world shifted as my mother left my father. It felt like a storm with no explanation. That moment, etched in resentment, accompanied me into adulthood. A fresh chapter awaited me in Tennessee, where I ventured to seek new horizons. It was there that my journey in the world of culinary arts truly began. A fast-food haven welcomed me as a manager, only to fade away, leaving me jobless. Out of necessity, I turned to selling plates from home, a means to pay the bills. The demand quickly exceeded my home's capacity, prompting me to step into catering. The bills were met, but the spark within me ignited the pursuit of more. Life's course brought me back to Texas in 2013, a journey driven by the need to care for my ailing mother. As the sands of time slipped away, I embraced my role as her caretaker until her passing in 2018. Those days allowed forgiveness to bloom, healing past wounds. The journey continues, shaping me into a supervisor, then a GM in the world of culinary excellence. In July of this year, I was blessed to cater to the amazing Dallas Mavericks Organization. I thank them for believing in me. Today, I stand at the threshold of my dreams, and your attention means the world to me. Thank you for taking the time to become a part of my story, for believing in the power of dreams, and for your anticipated generosity that propels my journey forward.
