Be a champion for nature and our community – help us raise funds for a Worcester Return on Environment Study
Worcester Township is one of the few communities left in the Philadelphia suburbs that is still green. Residents and visitors alike are drawn here because of the abundant open space - including landmarks like Evansburg State Park, Peter Wentz Farmstead, and Merrymead Farm - scenic vistas, woodlands, trails, and active farms, that make the Township such a special place to live.
For over 20 years, Friends of Worcester (FOW) has been working to preserve the Township’s open space and historic rural heritage. As development pressures increase, the Township is at a crossroads and the rural character here could well be lost forever.
Our open spaces are so much more than just aesthetically beautiful landscapes. They provide a high quality of life and significant economic, environmental, and public health benefits for the region.
John Rogers, of the Keystone Conservation Trust, is an environmental consultant who has conducted many Return on Environment (ROE) Studies for Counties and Townships across Pennsylvania quantifying the dollar value of nature and open spaces which demonstrate how “saving open space saves money”.
FOW is looking to have a ROE study prepared for Worcester. A ROE study will help us understand exactly what our open space is worth, and help us to make informed land use decisions in the future, so that Worcester can maintain its rural cultural heritage, sustain a strong economy, and continue to enhance the quality of life for its residents and the Philadelphia region.
