The Rebel Heart

I am a hopeful & hopeless sister of a drug addict, who refuses to wait until "that day" to come, in order to do something to end the stigma and help save a life in the name of drug addiction. 

I am using The Rebel Heart to raise money to donate to specific non-profit organizations that put all of their resources towards revolutionizing addiction treatment, educating communities on this epidemic, advocating for change, and ending the stigma. 

If you know me well enough, you know Drug Addiction weighs heavy on my heart. If you know me, but don't know the connection I have to it, it's not your fault. For years, 11 years to be specific, I have tried so hard not to associate it with my life. I never speak about it or the devastation it has suffocated my family with all these years. 

I am the sister of a Drug Addict. I even have a hard time writing that, because if I am to label my own brother as one, I feel I am leaving him to the wolves. The stigma around drug addiction may lead you to believe that he is a bad human. That is far from the truth.

I am the sister of an unbelievably hard-working, loving, charming, dynamic, kind, brave, & honest man, when he is sober. 

I am fortunate enough, that at this very moment, he is still with us. When he is good & sober, life is real good. Recent months have been especially rocky. If you love a drug addict, you know you cannot save them, you can only love them. & if love could save someone, we wouldn't be in this predicament.

I feel called to do what I can to help my brother, and other drug addicts and families of drug addicts. This is the beginning of The Rebel Heart. Thanks for supporting me.
