The world is facing a refugee crisis the likes of which we have not witnessed since World War II. While IRAP continues to advocate for the legal and human rights of our U.S.-affiliated Iraqi and Afghan wartime allies--the men and women being hunted down by ISIS, militias, and the Taliban in retaliation for their service to U.S. troops--our work has expanded to address the growing humanitarian crisis that is forcing millions of Syrian refugees and others to flee to Europe.

Wars and violence in the Middle East, North Africa, and elsewhere around the world have driven a record-high 60 million refugees and internally displaced persons from their homes. Just this year alone, over half a million refugees have fled to Europe; more than ten times that number -- 4.1 million Syrians and over 1 million Iraqis -- have taken refuge in countries like Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan. Syrian refugees now constitute 25% of Lebanon's total population.

Your gift to IRAP will impact the lives of thousands of refugees and their families.

Because of IRAP’s tremendous pro bono and volunteer network, every $1 donated is leveraged into $10 of legal aid for refugees!

The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) organizes law students and lawyers to develop and enforce a set of legal and human rights for refugees and displaced persons. Mobilizing direct legal aid and systemic policy advocacy, IRAP serves the world’s most persecuted individuals and empowers the next generation of human rights leaders.

IRAP is the only organization that provides comprehensive legal representation to refugees throughout the registration, protection, and resettlement processes.

IRAP works to identify and empower many of the world's most at-risk refugees, including:

  • Female survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV);
  • Interpreters being hunted down by ISIS, militias, and the Taliban in retaliation for their work with the United States and NATO;
  • LGBTI individuals;
  • Religious minorities subject to targeted violence; and
  • Children with medical emergencies for which local treatment is not available.
