About Me

I love helping others and learning new skills! I chose to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity because I agree with their mission and values. They are a Christian housing organization that helps families and individuals in need, build simple, decent, affordable housing with the help of volunteer labor, as well as donated funds, time and materials. Habitat provides a hand UP, not a hand OUT, with each home being sold at no profit, with a no-interest mortgage to local families who otherwise would likely not be able to obtain or afford a conventional mortgage. Partner families contribute 400 hours of "sweat equity" by helping in the construction of their own homes and the home of other partner families, alongside Habitat staff and volunteers, in addition to working in the ReStore, administrative office and at special events. I've participated in many local builds and now I've decided to join the Worldwide trips, in order to be able to experience other cultures. It is such a humbling experience! It really makes you appreciate all that you have and realize that there are so many people out there, that are so less fortunate.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
